In 2015, I walked into Trilogy Education’s first class at Rutgers Coding Boot Camp in Piscataway, New Jersey. We were kicking off our very first class of future web developers, and it was love at first sight. I had never been so affected by a room full of people. Although they were from all different walks of life, every person was there for a single purpose: they wanted a better future for themselves and their families. Spending time each week with our students, hearing their stories, seeing their struggles, and ultimately, watching them break through and succeed was perhaps the most inspiring time in my professional life.

Back then, I never could have imagined how many premier institutions would join Trilogy on this journey or the number of lives we would impact together.

Three and a half years later, Trilogy Education has redefined how the world’s leading universities are bridging the digital skills gap. We’re powering over 120 market-driven boot camp programs in coding, data analytics, UX/UI, and cybersecurity in 50 cities across the globe. The Trilogy network has grown to 46 university partners, more than 2,000 employer partners, and nearly 20,000 adult learners from all backgrounds impacted by our diversified programs.

I’m extremely proud of what we have achieved. But this is only the beginning.

Today, I’m excited to share that Trilogy Education has reached an agreement to be acquired by 2U, the leader in enabling universities to educate students in world-class online programs. By combining our companies, Trilogy Education and 2U will be able to help our university partners make a transformational impact on more students, in more places, throughout more of their lives and careers.

Chip Paucek and the 2U team have been a pioneering force helping universities shape the future of higher education for over a decade. Joining together is a natural fit for both of us. We share a common mission, set of values, and belief that universities are the best place for lifelong learning.

Both Chip and I genuinely believe skills-based training is the path forward in our economy as more and more people face a job market for which they are no longer qualified, while at the same time, companies can’t fill open positions. In the next 5 years, over half of all employees will need upskilling to remain relevant in their careers, and millions more will be displaced due to automation.

Through the work that Trilogy Education does on the ground, combined with 2U’s strong online capabilities, we will deliver skills-based training programs across even greater modalities, reaching tens of thousands more learners. Together, we’ll help even more premier universities support their students’ learning needs across their careers. We will also help universities serve the increasing needs of corporations looking to recruit diverse technical talent and reskill their existing workforces. I can’t wait to get started.

No one ever reaches a milestone like this alone, and there are countless people who have been instrumental on our path to this moment.

From the first few universities who believed in our vision to the most recent universities across the globe who have placed their trust in our partnership – thank you. Your belief and confidence in us has always given us the energy to push forward. We’re excited to bring you more opportunities to impact the people in your communities with best-in-class learning experiences.

And then there’s the Trilogy team. A lot of people have asked me over the last three years how we’ve created such a purpose-driven culture. My answer is always the same: hire people who genuinely care and are willing to give their heart and soul. ‘Purpose’ cannot be architected. It needs to come from within.  From our headquarters to our classrooms to our field teams, our people have given 110 percent. And it shows. I could not be prouder of what we have accomplished and can’t wait for the journey ahead together.

Thank you to all of our investors, advisors and board members who believed in us, guided us, and who respected our decisions. I am forever grateful.

And to my family. My incredible wife who told me to “get off the couch and go change the world.” She believed, she wrote our first website, she helped me think about the Trilogy story and has been my trusted advisor through thick and thin. To say I owe you one would be the understatement of a lifetime. Entrepreneurs out there – pick your partner well – this journey takes a lot of you and you need someone on your side who believes in you.

And most of all, I want to thank the thousands of students in our boot camp classrooms that are giving it their all to learn new skills and to succeed. You deeply inspire me. People like Esterling Accime, Valarie Regas, Mohammed Wardeh and the countless students who have shown incredible grit to forever transform the trajectory of their lives by gaining relevant digital skills. We do and will continue to do what we do because of all of you.

I look forward to Trilogy’s next phase of growth with excitement and as always, I am #TrilogyProud.
